The value of Twitter

How many of you use Twitter? What do you primarily use it for? How often do you "tweet"?

I have been on twitter for a few months now, and I'm finding it an interesting way to connect with those you never would normally connect with. It's also a great way to hook up with some people who currently work at companies you are interested in working for. I'm still trying to figure out what my best use of twitter is, however. It's a great place to post thoughts, news articles etc and get feedback and or comments. I also find it amazing how quickly some people get back to you, it's practically like instant messenger.

Yet, how often is to often? I mean, with the speed that people respond, I sometimes wonder if anyone does anything else all day. To be truthful, it started to make me a bit crazy, thinking I had to check it every 2 seconds! I have to work as well! Hmm, I'm sure with time I'll settle into my own twitter routine. Perhaps I'll use it to my advantage and post some career questions and see which experts respond. All in all, it's a great way to become a social media maven! Not to mention a great way to promote your blog!

Amy, you raise some good points about Twitter. I wrote a similar post on my blog just a few days ago as my Twitter 'disclaimer.' I think the connections and personal interactions that I have made on Twitter are what make it worthwhile.

However, it becomes eerily obsessive (especially for some people) so I think it's important to take it with a grain of salt and realize it's just another online tool, not your life :)

I started an account years back but only recently got into it. I moved 2000 miles from home/my college town, so it's a good way for me to keep in daily contact with some of my nearest and dearest back in Texas. It's also become a great way for me to network with other bloggers, to keep people abreast of updates to my page, and also just a way to let off steam about my life.

And this might just be because I'm a word nerd, I like trying to make my entire life fit into a ridiculously small character limit. It makes me feel like I've done something useful. ;)

I just recently started using Twitter more, also. I mainly follow celebrities, but I follow some of my friends too. I go through ups and downs, some days I'll Tweet 5-7 times, others I won't Tweet at all. I'm definitely becoming obsessed with the daily actions of celebrities though.
